Captain's Log Star Date 31st July 2014

In Star Trek, the philosphy was to go 'where no man has gone before', with SWD it is to create change and optimism. For me, our first day sail with children from Southport brought unexplained tears to my eyes and emotions I could not describe as I watched children laugh and smile all over the boat; change was occurring within me.

Each day has brought a new group of kids sufferring from various disabilties and each day they experience the joy of sailing whilst facing their social and physical fears. Each day I hide the tears in my eyes behind  a pair of sunglasses; still unexplained, I think this once stoic cop is softening his heart as the campaign progresses.   The privelege of this wonderful experience has not been without its challenges as the crew work hard to ensure the boat reaches each port safely, ready for the next group of kids to board. The behind the scenes work has involved, taking on fresh provisions, water, fuel, cooking, cleaning, maintenance, route and navigational planning.

The crew are weary but the cause is great with everyone eager to share their skills and experience for the benefit of SWD.   As our time in Bundaberg draws to a close, we ready the boat for the journey to Rossyln Bay, approximately 135nm north of here. Fair winds !
